ANNIES WAR - Love Amid The Ruins (Annies War - Love Amid the Ruins Series Book 1)
Both writers had been included on a slate of titles pulled together by a group of right-leaning science fiction writers dubbing themselves the Sad Puppies, who had mobilised fans to pay for membership of Worldcon, enabling them to vote and thus flood the categories with their choices.
But they were also on the slate for the so-called Rabid Puppies campaigners, led by the writer Theodore Beale, known online as Vox Day, an inflammatory far-right blogger who was expelled from the Science Fiction Writers of America following racist comments about the award-winning author NK Jemisin. As debate rages on both sides over how to deal with what has been dubbed the GamerGate of science fiction — and as the Sad Puppies move to distance themselves from Day — George RR Martin urged fans to buy a membership for Worldcon, and thus the right to vote on the awards.
Usually they are a lot of fun. Come to the party. Everyone is welcome.

Double tragedy: Annie's husband Arthur, already reeling from the horror of the trenches, never recovered. Two months later, he was convicted of their murder and spent the rest of the war in prison before being recommended for release in The most likely explanation is that Richard changed his name when he was released. Annie's two children, a son and a daughter, were left to be brought up by relatives while her husband Arthur was devastated by his wife's death.
Baker, a decent, straightforward man, was both bewildered by his wife's actions and left distraught by her death which he was told of in a blunt telegram that read: 'Wife and baby dead. According to his granddaughter Joan, Arthur 'never recovered from what happened'. Annie herself was largely forgotten, sensationalised in media reports at the time but left in the shadows by her own family who wanted nothing more than to forget what had happened.
